Dear Chaverim,
Cooking and food preparation is permissible on Yom Tov unlike on Shabbat. However; preparing for the second day of Yom Tov on a Shabbat is still prohibited. The Eruv Tavshilin is a Rabbinic Mitzvah which merges the cooking times by beginning to cook for Shabbat before Yom Tov begins. This allows us to prepare food and light candles for second day of Yom Tov which would otherwise be prohibited.
This year Schara Tzedeck is producing instructional and inspirational videos for the holidays. Here is Rabbi Schachter describing how to make an Eruv Tavshilin.Wishing you a Chag Sameach!
